Kimberly Tegner filed a lawsuit against Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools alleging “racially motivated criticism and bullying.” Among the claims were that Tegner’s white colleagues circulated a petition referring to her hair as unprofessional. The supervisor who began the petition claimed to have friends who were black “so it was okay for her to say what she did.” According to The State, Judge Robert J. Conrad, Jr. said the petition was “offensive” and not appropriate, but that it did not “satisfy the demanding severe or pervasive standard required to state a claim for hostile work environment....

While speaking Wednesday at the Steelers’ mandatory minicamp, Smith-Schuster admitted he has no beef with Brown but wishes things wouldn’t have ended so abruptly between them. “The man’s a role model. In that situation, I didn’t want it to end like that,” Smith-Schuster told reporters. “I have no hard feelings against him. Assange, 50, was given permission by the High Court in London to appeal his case to the U.K. Supreme Court. Monday’s ruling means Assange, an Australian citizen, has passed the first hurdle in his bid to overturn a December decision that he could be sent to the U.S., where he is wanted over Wikileaks’ publication of thousands of classified documents in 2010 and 2011. Assange remains in custody at London’s high-security Belmarsh prison pending his extradition battle....

Royals fan John Coomer, a resident of Overland Park, Kan., sued the team after getting hit in the eye by a foil-wrapped hot dog. On the evening of March 16, 2022, the Empire actor walked out of jail six days into a 150-day sentence. Smollett’s release comes after his legal team filed an appeal against the conviction. However, Gene Rossi, a former career federal prosecutor who spoke to Newsweek said the appeals court’s move is likely to be cited by other defense attorneys and defendants in the future. He said that any defense attorney is likely to make mention of the kind of treatment Smollett received and ask that their client receive a similar type of treatment....

Nearly a year after the actor made headlines for allegedly staging a homophobic attack against himself in Chicago, an Illinois judge has now ordered Smollett’s personal electronic data be handed over to a special prosecutor, according to reports published on Wednesday. A judge signed a warrant on December 6 ordering Google to deliver all of Smollett’s Google search and browsing history, Google Drive and Google Voice files, emails (included those drafted or deleted), photographs and geolocation data from November 2018 to November 2019....

The former Empire star is due in a Chicago court on Monday as he defends himself against charges that he orchestrated his own attack in the city back in 2019, in which he had alleged that two men poured bleach on him and placed a noose around his neck. Brothers Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo later alleged they had been paid $3,500 by the actor to stage the attack. While Smollett was arrested, charges against him were dropped in March 2019....

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Monday that middle and high school students will be able to return to classrooms starting April 26. Previously, the city said elementary students would be the first to return, followed later by older grades. The Department of Education said nearly half of those opting back into the classroom are elementary grade students. Roughly 10,000 middle school and 13,000 high school students could be heading back at the end of the month....

Assistant Attorney General Matthew Olsen told lawmakers Tuesday he decided to create the specialized domestic terrorism unit to investigate domestic violent threats from extremists. Olsen called the threats “elevated,” as they have more than doubled since Spring 2020 after the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
