First, search for Wordle or head to the NYT games site and look for Wordle. Next, choose a starting word. It needs to be a real English word, five letters long, and can have duplicated letters. Type the starting word into the first row of blocks and press enter. The letters will change color to give players some clues as to the real answer.

Green letters are correct. Yellow letters are right but in the wrong place in the word. Gray letters are incorrect.

Given these clues, players have just six guesses to get to the right answer. There will be a brand-new puzzle every day at midnight local time, meaning there is only one word to guess every day. This is part of the reason why there are so many clones and copycats of Wordle out there.
