How To Play Wordle
As a quick note: although there are a lot of copycats, like the Wordle clone about guessing video games, the original is currently hosted on the NYT’s website. Wordle was originally created by the programmer of powerlanguage, but it was purchased by the newspaper giant in February. This article will be about this version of the game; other versions will have different answers and might even have different rules.

First, head to the Wordle website. Choose a starting word for the puzzle. Starting words should:
Be five letters long. Be a real American English word. Not be an offensive word. Contain common Wordle letters.
Type the chosen word into the website and press enter. The letters will change colors to give players some clues and allow them to guess the correct answer in just six tries.
Green letters are correct and in the right place in the word. Yellow letters are right but in the wrong place in the word. Gray letters are incorrect; they won’t appear in the final answer.
After the puzzle is complete, players will get to see the Wordle menu. This menu gives players their stats as long as they use the same browser and device every day. These stats include guess distribution, win streaks, total puzzles played, and more. This is also where players can find the spoiler-free share button to share the colors of their puzzles. If anyone has seen those patterns of little yellow and green squares on social media, this is how people have generated those posts for themselves.
